  • Q: How long before travel should I get my travel vaccinations?
A: At Preston Travel & Vac, we recommend that you schedule your travel vaccinations at least 6 to 8 weeks before your departure date. This timeframe allows enough time for your body to build up immunity and ensures that you are protected upon reaching your destination. Some vaccines may require multiple doses spread over several weeks, making early planning essential. If you're traveling on short notice, don't worry; our healthcare professionals can still provide you with options to ensure optimal protection. It's better to be vaccinated late than not at all! Please consult with our team to tailor a vaccination schedule that fits your specific travel plans and health needs.
  • Q: How do I book an appointment for Travel Vaccinations?
A: Visit our Book an Appointment page or call 01772 556030 to arrange your travel vaccinations. Same day appointments are available and we also offer a walk-in service (subject to availability).
  • Q: What travel vaccines do I need for travelling to...?
A: The specific travel vaccinations you may need depend largely on your destination, the duration of your stay, and your planned activities. You may need specialized vaccines depending on your travel itinerary. For example: 1. Yellow Fever: Required for travel to certain parts of Africa and South America. 2. Diptheria, Tetanus & Polio: Common travel vaccination for ALL destinations. 3. Typhoid: Important for travelers heading to areas where food and water may be contaminated, common in parts of Asia and South America. 4. Hepatitis A and B: Recommended for most travelers, especially those visiting regions with high rates of hepatitis infection. 5. Rabies: Suggested if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors or in rural areas, particularly in regions where rabies is common. 6. Japanese Encephalitis: Necessary for trips to rural areas in Asia during the transmission season. 7. Malaria Prophylaxis: While not a vaccine, medications to prevent malaria are crucial for travel to areas with high malaria risk, such as parts of Africa and South Asia. If you are unsure of what you need, book a FREE Travel Health Consultation with one of our healthcare professionals who will make bespoke recommendations tailored to your trip. It's important to schedule a consultation with us several weeks before your departure to discuss your travel plans in detail. At Preston Travel Vaccination Clinic, our experienced healthcare professionals will help you determine the necessary vaccinations and provide tailored advice to ensure your health and safety while traveling.
  • Q: Will I get side effects from Travel Vaccines?
A: Generally, most people experience only minor side effects, if any. These can include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or fatigue, which usually resolve on their own within a few days. Serious side effects are rare, but our experienced medical staff are here to address any concerns you may have.
  • Q: How long do travel vaccinations last?
A: The duration of immunity provided by travel vaccinations can vary depending on the specific vaccine. For example, the Hepatitis A vaccine typically offers protection for at least 25 years in adults after the initial series, while the Typhoid vaccine may require a booster every 3 years for those who remain at risk. The Yellow Fever vaccination provides lifelong imunity. We recommend bringing a copy of your vaccination records to your appointment and our travel health experts will advise on which travel vaccinations may be needed for your upcoming trip.

A: Whether you need malaria tablets depends on your travel destination and the specific health risks associated with it. Malaria is prevalent in many tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Africa, Asia, and South America. Therefore, if you are traveling to any malaria-endemic area, taking malaria prophylaxis is highly recommended. Before your trip, our travel medicine specialist will provide you with the most current advice based on your specific travel itinerary, the duration of your stay, and your overall health condition. They can also prescribe the appropriate type of antimalarial medication for you, as different regions may have different strains of malaria that require different treatments. In addition to taking malaria tablets, we advise our clients to adhere to preventive measures such as using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets. By doing so, you can significantly reduce your risk of contracting malaria. For personalized advice and to receive malaria prophylaxis tailored to your travel plans, please book an appointment with our expert team at Preston Travel Vaccination Clinic.
